BirthdayThroughout Kerbey Lane Cafe’s 36 years in business, they have made it a priority to support the Austin community by contributing their time, resources, and energy to local organizations. Kerbey Lane has been a supporter of UWATX’s annual employee giving campaign since 2013, and this is the second year they will donate all net profits earned on its birthday to the organization.

In 2015, Kerbey Lane team members gave nearly $21,500 from their paychecks through the employee giving campaign. Kerbey Lane donated $3,263 from its Round Rock soft opening, $8,521 from its 35th birthday celebration, and $6,000 through financially sponsoring various UWATX events. Additionally, Kerbey Lane employees participated in 12 United Way volunteer projects giving 509 hours of time to the community and totaling $12,552 worth of work. This all totals more than $51,000!

Mason Ayer, CEO of Kerbey Lane Cafe, says: “Our ongoing partnership with United Way continues to be one of the most valuable ways our team joins together to support the Austin community. I am consistently amazed by the generosity our team members show with their time and resources as part of this partnership. What’s most touching is that our team members consistently list the opportunity to work with United Way as a benefit of working at Kerbey Lane. I’m proud we can also contribute on the corporate level by donating the profits from our birthday celebration back to United Way.”

As the backbone of a citywide network of community agencies, United Way for Greater Austin works to create positive, long-term change right here in Austin—where we work, live, and raise our families. This generous gift will support United Way programs that improve early childhood education, dropout prevention, and financial stability for those in need in our community.

From humble beginnings to word-of-mouth wonder, Kerbey Lane Cafe opened in May 1980, operating out of a small house on Kerbey Lane in north central Austin. Founders Patricia and David Ayer sought to serve fresh, high quality, affordable food while providing a welcoming and memorable experience to all. This commitment stands true today at all seven of Kerbey Lane’s locations throughout the Austin area under the leadership of their son Mason Ayer, CEO.
