Meet our new administrative assistant, Eric Moe!

Eric is a design major at the University of Texas, and new to the world of public relations. We’re excited to have Eric working with us. Get to know him through this brief Q&A.

Where are you from?

I have lived in Austin, Texas my entire life! I love this town and am almost adjusted to the heat and traffic, so I figure I may as well stick around.

Why did you choose to study design?

Even as a little kid I loved art— specifically fulfilling drawing requests from fellow classmates. I have always been drawn to the idea of taking the beginning of an concept and developing it to completion. When I realized there’s an entire profession dedicated to this concept, I had to go for it! Plus. I have a deep love for typefaces and typography.

How do you make the transition from design to public relations?

Well, in a strange way I don’t think they are all that different. You have to create appealing content for a client that reaches a large number of people in both scenarios, right? I have decided the best way to make that transition is to stay flexible and open to learning new things.

What do you do in your spare time?

I probably spend more money weekly on Barton Springs than the average college student spends on coffee! Other than that, I always have a personal art project to work on or a library book to read.

What is your favorite social media site?

Someone once told me Instagram is the most pleasant social media site, and I think that’s pretty accurate as far as my experience goes. At the very least, it is the photography, type, and cute animal fix in my life!

Where do you take people who are new to Austin?

I like food trailer parks because everyone can get something different and sometimes you will find a food truck that features the Austin take on a traveler’s favorite. After that, I like to do something outside like hiking the greenbelt, swimming at Barton Springs, or paddleboarding on Town Lake.

What was the most interesting art project you’ve ever completed?

I made a replica of a Greek statue out of cardboard for my sculpture class. Never again! One hundred hand-cut pieces assembled in six hours— next time I will just draw a Greek guy on the cardboard.

What is your dream job?

I like to say that I want to be as famous as Milton Glaser (which is only funny to design nerds who know that he came up with the I ♥ NY logo). I would be thrilled to be a renowned designer or art director. Another dream job would be to Photoshop fake pictures for The Onion, but they haven’t returned my emails.

Recap of Mueller Happy Hour at Elaine’s at Eastside Cafe

After a week of nonstop rain, the clouds finally parted and gave way to sunshine— just in time for the Mueller happy hour on the outdoor patio of Elaine’s at Eastside Cafe.

About 60 Mueller residents came to the meet up on April 22. Some rode their bikes from the neighborhood, and others stopped by on their way home from work. Neighbors mingled and got to know one another while enjoying drink specials, the beautiful scenery of the backyard garden, and free appetizers including shrimp ceviche and vegetable taquitos.
