More than 30 of Austin’s most acclaimed chefs will serve samples of their culinary creations at Sustainable Food Center’s ninth annual Farm to Plate on Wednesday, May 11 from 7- 9:30 p.m. at the historic Barr Mansion.

Farm to Plate focuses exclusively on locally grown and produced food. All of the participating chefs have shown a commitment to using food from local sources, in line with SFC’s mission. Read more

HRC Austin announces honorees for 2016 Gala 

Austin’s first transgender police officer Gregory Abbink to receive Visibility Award; Scandal’s Guillermo Diaz to be honored

Gregory AbbinkCelebrating its 21st year, the Human Rights Campaign Austin’s annual Gala has been one of the most successful in the country, raising record funding to support civil rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered people, and receiving national recognition. The black-tie event will be held at the J.W. Marriott on Saturday, January 30th, at 7 p.m., with approximately 700 people expected to attend.

This year’s theme, On the Shoulders of Giants, is intended to recognize every person who helped make 2015 a banner year for LGBT equality, according to co-chairs Lyn
n Currie and Matt Smith.

ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot raises $295K; cumulative donation to Caritas nearly $3 million

The owners of ThunderCloud Subs recently presented Caritas of Austin with a check for $295,000, the entirety of the proceeds from the 25th anniversary ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot. This year’s check brings the Trot’s cumulative 25-year donation to nearly $3 million—$2,783,375, to be exact. Read more
