Brenda Thompson

Brenda Thompson has been a professional communicator in Austin for more than 15 years, serving the corporate, retail, higher education, and nonprofit sectors as a public relations consultant, marketing manager, and writer.

Thompson began her public relations firm after leading several account service teams at TateAustin, one of the top 25 public relations firms in Texas. There, she oversaw the firm’s work on behalf of clients including Seton Family of Hospitals, Capital Metropolitan Transit Authority, and St. Edward’s University.

Prior to joining TateAustin, Thompson was vice president of marketing for United Way Capital Area, one of the nation’s most successful United Ways, where her accomplishments included a major re-branding of the organization and managing an annual event involving more than 200 companies and 2,000 volunteers. She served as public relations and publications director for St. Edward’s University, the state’s fifth largest private university, with responsibilities including leading the institution’s overall marketing and communications efforts. She began her career in journalism, as a newspaper reporter, magazine writer, and editor.

An enthusiastic advocate for her clients and causes, Thompson is an active community leader, currently serving on the board of directors of Austin's Sustainable Food Center. She was a founding board member of The Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders and has also served on the boards of Leadership Austin, ZACH Theatre and the Girl Scouts of Central Texas. She was a co-founder of the Social Media Club, organized for the purpose of sharing best practices, establishing ethics and standards, and promoting media literacy. She has been included in the Austin American Statesman's Out & About 500 List for the past five years. The Out & About 500 "recognizes those among us who are everywhere, all the time, often doing good, weaving the social fabric of Austin."
