The Trail Foundation announces 15 new projects for the next five years

State of the Trail previews TTF’s 15th anniversary in 2018

At The Trail Foundation’s annual State of the Trail address on Dec. 8, TTF’s executive director Heidi Anderson (formerly Cohn) announced 15 new projects in honor of TTF’s 15th anniversary next year. Slated for completion on the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail over the next five years, the projects range from new trailheads and bathrooms to new water access points and playgrounds.

To pay for the 15 projects, The Trail Foundation also announced the creation of the Canopy Fund, in which donations will be dedicated to finance the initial phases of each future project. Nine projects are on the east side of the Trail, four on the west, and two along the entirety of the 10-mile Trail. Read more

Freedom Solar completes new projects for iconic business Alamo Candy Company

Those sour green apple candies at San Antonio’s renowned Alamo Candy Company are getting a lot greener. Our client Freedom Solar Power recently designed and installed two new solar projects for Alamo Candy, one of the largest candy manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, and retailers in San Antonio.

Freedom Solar completed a 100.8-kilowatt solar array comprised of 280 panels on the rooftop of Alamo Candy’s popular retail shop at 2738 Blanco Rd. and an 86.4-kilowatt system comprised of 240 panels on the company’s office at 1149 W. Hildebrand Ave. Read more

That’s a wrap! 2017 ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot a huge success

The 27th annual ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot benefiting Caritas of Austin was a huge success attracting more than 20,000 runners. ThunderCloud will reveal the amount of money this year’s Trot raised for Caritas at a check presentation event on Dec. 20.

The Trail Foundation receives $8K donation for ecological restoration efforts

The Trail Foundation‘s longtime partner Patagonia generously donated $8K to fund its work with Texas Conservation Corps at American YouthWorks. These funds can be tied to much of the recent ecological restoration work TTF has been doing along the entirety of the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail. New commissioned work for women’s voices a highlight of emotional, topical concert

Los Angeles’ premier women’s chorus, VOX Femina, opens its 2017 season with She Persisted, a timely call to action through song, on Saturday, Nov. 18, at Zipper Concert Hall.

The concert will feature a new work commissioned by VOX for women’s voices, The Journey of Harriet Tubman, which follows Tubman’s courageous life using her own words in conjunction with some of the most important and recognizable spirituals in the repertoire. Dr. Ron Kean, emeritus professor of music at Bakersfield College, composed the piece.

Fonda San Miguel raises funds for Emancipet to honor late Chef Miguel Ravago

Austin’s award-winning Fonda San Miguel is honoring its late chef and co-founder Miguel Ravago, who passed away earlier this year, with a giving campaign benefiting Emancipet, the non-profit on a mission to make high-quality, low-cost veterinary care accessible for all pet owners.

In addition to being an influential leader of Austin’s culinary scene, Ravago was also a big animal lover. Freedom Solar completes unique dual purpose solar array for Guido Construction

Freedom Solar Power recently designed and installed a one-of-a-kind project for Guido & Companies Inc. that uses solar panels to spell out the word “GUIDO” on the building’s rooftop and doubles as creative aerial advertising.

Guido Construction Company and Guido Building Materials Company are located at 8526 Vidor Avenue, right next to the San Antonio International Airport, so people flying into or out of the airport get a prime view of the company’s large solar panel “billboard.” Read more

ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot Art Contest opens; deadline Nov. 27

Imagine free ThunderCloud subs all year long, and treating your friends and family to sub sandwich parties! Three hundred and sixty-five subs are the grand prize for the winner of the 2018 ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot Art Contest.

Artists ranging from graphic designers to middle school students compete each year to create the iconic Trot artwork that appears on 20,000-plus T-shirts and other materials promoting the annual Thanksgiving day event.
