Emancipet offering FREE vet care for Houston pets in the wake of Hurricane Harvey

A collaboration with The HSUS and The Lewyt Trust, with support from Maddie’s Fund, will help keep pets and their people together
Emancipet, the nonprofit veterinary clinic operating in Houston’s East End, has seen a huge outpouring of support for its initiative to provide free veterinary care to Houston pets whose families were impacted by Hurricane Harvey. As a result of this generosity, and especially a significant grant from the Alex & Elisabeth Lewyt Charitable Trust and The Humane Society of the United States, and a generous grant from Maddie’s Fund®, Emancipet will be able to provide free veterinary care at it’s Houston location for three months beginning this Saturday, Sept. 9, as families get back on their feet.

Help clear the shelters with Emancipet on August 19

Clear the Shelter, an annual nationwide pet adoption drive that helps find loving homes for animals in need, will take place on Saturday, August 19. Hundreds of shelters across the U.S. will participate. Emancipet supports the Clear the Shelter initiative each year because the inability to afford veterinary care accounts for half of all pets surrendered to shelters when you exclude family and housing issues.

Kerbey Lane donates 18,669 meals to Central Texans in need

Kerbey Lane Cafe donated a total of 18,012 meals to Central Texans in need through its “Hot Cakes for Hunger” drive benefiting Central Texas Food Bank (CTFB), which took place at all seven of its locations July 16-29.

During the campaign, Kerbey Lane donated all proceeds from its specialty pancakes to the food bank, as well as an additional 824 pounds of pancake mix. Kerbey Lane team members presented CTFB with the check from the proceeds and boxes of pancake mix, and helped sort nearly 6,700 pounds of food during their team-building volunteer day at the food bank on August 8.
